Ulic Qel-Droma, a male Jedi Knight, is a central figure in the legendary narratives known as the Qel-Droma Epics. The tales recount that following the death of Qel-Droma's Master at the hands of the Krath, Qel-Droma bravely volunteered to infiltrate their ranks with the intention of dismantling their organization. Tragically, he succumbed to corruption and embraced the dark side of the Force on Empress Teta, ultimately seizing control of the Krath alongside the similarly fallen Jedi, Exar Kun. In time, Qel-Droma experienced a change of heart, renouncing the dark side and achieving redemption through being cut off from the Force. As a Jedi, he was known for wielding a lightsaber that emitted a potent yellow-green light.

The initial reference to Ulic Qel-Droma within the current Star Wars canon occurred in Nexus of Power. This book served as a resource for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: Force and Destiny roleplaying game, and it was made available on March 17, 2016.
The Ulic Qel-Droma character was introduced to the Star Wars Legends expanded universe through the first edition of the Tales of the Jedi comic book series. This comic was penned by Tom Veitch, with illustrations by Chris Gossett, and published under the Dark Horse Comics label on October 1, 1993. Despite this being his formal introduction, Qel-Droma was alluded to earlier in Lost for Over 300 Years, an afterword written by Tom Veitch featured at the end of Dark Empire 5.

A concept sketch by Wayne Lo, entitled "Jedi Temple stained glass art sketches," which was created but ultimately unused for the second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, featured Ulic Qel-Droma. This sketch was included in The Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars booklet, which came with the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Seasons 1-5 Collector's Edition. The sketch also portrayed Odan-Urr and Nomi Sunrider.

The complete artwork showcasing Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider was part of the production journal for Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Two. The artwork depicted Nomi Sunrider severing Ulic Qel-Droma's connection to the Force, a scene taken from the sixth edition of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – The Sith War comic book series. A portion of this specific stained glass window is visible in the second season episode "Lightsaber Lost," though the majority of the composition remains unseen.
