The Star Wars Legends novel, Han Solo and the Lost Legacy, was penned by Brian Daley. This book represents the third and concluding installment in the Star Wars: The Han Solo Adventures series. Del Rey initially released it to the public on August 12, 1980. The entire trilogy was then republished as The Han Solo Adventures in 1992.
The legendary treasure of the insane tyrant Xim was said to be immeasurable, but for Han Solo and his Wookiee companion Chewbacca, it was merely a myth. However, the pleas of an old space bum, who had once saved Han's life, combined with the fact that a minor misunderstanding had put the galaxy's most lethal gunman on his tail, made a clandestine journey to almost anywhere seem appealing, piquing Han Solo's interest.
Yet, just hours after arriving on the planet supposedly hiding the treasure, Han's cherished spacecraft, the Millennium Falcon, was stolen. Han and his group then had to contend with both assassins and a horde of murderous robots.
Han Solo couldn't help but feel that this was a terrible way for a couple of honest smugglers to earn a living…
Han Solo and Chewbacca find themselves once more facing financial difficulties, having unwisely spent the "reward" they received for dismantling the slavery operation within the Corporate Sector Authority. The smuggling pair is again working alongside the aged labor droid, BLX-5, and the computer probe, Blue Max.
A swift job provides the smugglers with 1,500 credits, leading them to the University world of Rudrig within the Tion Hegemony. It is here that Han and Chewie cross paths with Alexsandr Badure, a seasoned smuggler who previously rescued them. Badure has experienced a downturn in his fortunes and has been engaged in contract labor at a questionable mining encampment located on the planet Dellalt, where he has formed friendships with two sisters, Hasti and Lanni Troujow. Lanni, a pilot, has stumbled upon what they believe to be the log-recorder disk originating from the long-vanished Queen of Ranroon, the legendary treasure ship of the warlord Xim the Despot. Millennia prior, the Queen, along with its valuable cargo and a contingent of Xim's war-robots, was lost while en route to Xim's expansive treasure vaults on Dellalt.
Badure requires the assistance of Han and Chewbacca for a mission, which involves transporting himself and Hasti back to Dellalt, accompanied by the Ruurian professor Skynx, whose task is to decode the disk and guide them to the treasure. Lanni conceals the disk within a lockbox at the vaults before being murdered by the mine's operators, who then pursue Badure and Hasti in an attempt to seize the disk and treasure for their own gain.
Han is being hunted by Gallandro, considered the most dangerous gunman in the galaxy, who seeks to settle a matter of honor with Han stemming from their dealings in the Corporate Sector. Shortly after their arrival on Dellalt, the mine operators manage to commandeer the Millennium Falcon and return it to the mine in order to search for the disk. Han's group makes the decision to trek across several hundred kilometers of Dellatian wilderness to recover their ship. During their journey, they encounter the Survivors, a secluded clan of inbred Humans who have apparently resided in the mountains for many generations, maintaining their hidden existence.
The 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story makes a reference to Han Solo and the Lost Legacy; specifically, the mytag crystal masthead of Xim the Despot is shown as one of the artifacts present aboard the First Light.
