Hanrai was a Jedi knight of the male persuasion who rose to the rank of Jedi lord following the vanishing of the planet Rei'izu after the Sith rebellion. He was the leader of his clan, based at his family's estate on Watoru. Being a Jedi, he mentored many apprentices, such as Yuehiro, Tsuden, and Ogara; nevertheless, his most esteemed pupil was the one who would eventually become known as the Traveler, previously named Idzuna.
Ronin: A Visions Novel marked the initial appearance of Hanrai. Emma Mieko Candon penned the novel as a companion piece to the Star Wars: Visions short film "The Duel", although the character himself is not in the short film.
