Hantor Loftus

Hantor Loftus, a male Human captain, resided in Mos Entha on the planet of Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War. Functioning as a member within the Alliance to Restore the Republic, he frequently engaged with smugglers who were sympathetic towards the Alliance's cause. Subsequent to the Battle of Yavin, Loftus successfully disrupted Project Lasercutter, an Inquisitorius-led endeavor designed to apprehend smugglers aligned with the Rebel cause.

Loftus later became a part of the New Republic Intelligence Service, continuing his operations on Tatooine. By 12 ABY, he was in charge of a team tasked with the retrieval and imprisonment of survivors from a raid conducted by New Republic operative Kyle Katarn on an Imperial Remnant recruiting base situated on the planet. Loftus communicated the mission's results directly to Mon Mothma, an official within the N.R.I., while also suggesting that Katarn be excluded from future N.R.I. intelligence-gathering operations because of his forceful methods.

Biography

Rebel Alliance

Living on the desert planet Tatooine, in the Arkanis sector of the Outer Rim Territories, was Human male Hantor Loftus. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin during the time of the Galactic Civil War, Loftus served the Alliance to Restore the Republic as a captain. Around 1 ABY, he learned of an Imperial scheme called Project Lasercutter, which aimed to capture smugglers who helped the Rebel Alliance to weaken their supply chains. Loftus established a temporary operational center in a hotel complex within Mos Entha, and from there, he issued various directives to thwart the project.

Loftus operated from within a Mos Entha hotel.

Initially, he hired a spacer to find and kill an Imperial agent who was targeting a smuggler on Tatooine. Soon after, Loftus heard that the Imperials were after Jaxa Lian, one of his most dependable smugglers. Loftus, once again employing the spacer, paid for Lian's safe passage back to his base.

Once Lian was safely back, Loftus turned his attention to finding the source of the Empire's accurate intelligence. Eventually, Loftus found a spy in the Alliance's recruitment program, a Naboo native named Lidek Baws. Baws was scheduled to meet his Imperial handlers in the desert, so Loftus dispatched the spacer to intercept him. The spacer confronted Baws, killing him and the Imperials with him. Loftus had initially thought the Imperial Security Bureau was behind Project Lasercutter, but he then realized that it was led by the Inquisitorius, a highly secretive branch of Imperial Intelligence. Loftus understood that eliminating the Project's leading Inquisitor would set Project Lasercutter back by months, potentially stopping it for good. So, he sent the spacer on another mission to assassinate the lead Inquisitor, warning the spacer about the Inquisitors' dangerous reputation and their rumored ability to use the Force. Taking these warnings to heart, the spacer successfully eliminated the Inquisitor.

New Republic

Captain Loftus criticized Kyle Katarn (pictured) for his aggressive techniques.

Following the transformation of the Rebel Alliance into the New Republic, Loftus joined the New Republic Intelligence Service, which was a successor to the earlier Rebel spy networks and the Senate Planetary Intelligence Network. By 12 ABY, Loftus held the rank of captain within the service. In that year, Kyle Katarn, a New Republic agent, launched a raid on an Imperial Remnant headquarters on Tatooine, which had been recruiting from the local population. Katarn routed the Imperials and killed their leader, who claimed to be "Reborn."

Loftus worked with the recovery and incarceration team sent to Tatooine after Katarn's mission, but they only found one Imperial survivor, who was terrified by his encounter with Katarn. Loftus sent the prisoner to Coruscant for further questioning, along with a preliminary report on the mission addressed to Mon Mothma, formerly a Chief of State in the New Republic and now working for N.R.I. In the report, Loftus asked that Katarn be kept away from future "intelligence-gathering missions," criticizing what he felt was an overly aggressive approach.

Personality and traits

As a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, a revolutionary group seeking to overthrow the Galactic Empire, Captain Hantor Loftus played a role in organizing missions with the goal of eliminating Imperial personnel. He maintained the same rank when he continued to serve under the New Republic. On at least one occasion, he reported directly to Mon Mothma, a high-ranking official within New Republic Intelligence. In this instance, Loftus was prepared to "humbly request" that agent Kyle Katarn be removed from intelligence-gathering missions, even though he knew the recommendation might be seen as overstepping professional boundaries. Loftus had light skin, brown hair, and brown eyes.

Equipment

By the time Loftus was operating in Mos Entha, he had acquired pirate weaponry for his personal use. He also wore a light brown outfit.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of Loftus was in the N.R.I. Reports, a series of weekly in-universe updates released on the LucasArts website to promote the 2002 video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. These reports were later included in the game's README file.

Loftus later appeared as a non-player character in the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, developed by Sony Online Entertainment. He was known as Captain Loftus in the game and in associated Prima Games strategy guides, and the game also gave him the first name Hantor. In the Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Quick Reference Guide, Loftus was listed as a level 10 NPC with 356 experience points. In Star Wars Galaxies, Loftus gave player characters four quests, all starting from Mos Entha. He was removed from the game after the release of "Publish 25," also known as the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.
