The criminal organization known as the Harlok Gang was active on the desert planet of Tatooine throughout the Imperial Era. This gang, primarily composed of several Weequays, controlled a modest fleet of ships. Not long after the pivotal Battle of Hoth, the Harlok Gang came across the Millennium Falcon while it was in orbit above Tatooine. They mistakenly thought that the smuggler Han Solo, the ship's owner and pilot, was at the controls, and they insisted that the freighter accompany their fleet. However, Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca were actually piloting the starship on behalf of the Rebel Alliance. Calrissian, who had previously served as the Baron Administrator of Cloud City, deceived the Harlok Gang by stating his intention to negotiate a transaction with Jabba the Hutt. In return for a share of the purported agreement, the Harlok Gang consented to guide Calrissian to Jabba's Palace.
