Hath Monchar, a Neimoidian male from Neimoidia, served as a Deputy Viceroy within the Trade Federation. His service spanned from 33 BBY to 32 BBY. Initially a strong supporter of Nute Gunray, Monchar ultimately betrayed both the Trade Federation and their secret ally, Darth Sidious. His fatal error was attempting to sell information about their plans to the highest bidder, a decision that led to his demise.
In 33 BBY, Hath Monchar, along with Rune Haako, a Settlement Officer, and Captain Daultay Dofine, gained access to Viceroy Nute Gunray's inner circle. As such, he was among the select few who knew of the clandestine agreement between the Trade Federation and the Sith. Monchar, his colleagues, and the enigmatic Sith Lord Darth Sidious conspired to ensure Gunray's rise to the top of the Trade Federation, which, in turn, would solidify their positions as his primary supporters.
After Sidious subtly orchestrated the deaths of the Trade Federation Directorate members, Gunray assumed undisputed leadership, appointing Monchar and his associates to the vacated positions of power. However, the Deputy Viceroy grew increasingly disillusioned with the Federation's naive and increasing obedience to the Sith's commands, seemingly how it transformed their business into a war machine. Monchar eventually betrayed Darth Sidious and Nute Gunray by fleeing Gunray's flagship, the Saak'ak, with a Sith holocron containing intelligence about the impending Invasion of Naboo, foolishly hoping to profit by selling it.
The former Deputy Viceroy's act of treachery did not go unnoticed, drawing the attention of both the Trade Federation and the Sith, each seeking to recover the holocron and prevent the exposure of their secret schemes. To that effect, Darth Sidious dispatched his apprentice, Darth Maul, to locate and eliminate Monchar and any associated contacts, thereby eliminating any potential leaks.
Monchar tried to sell the holocron to Darnada, a vigo of Black Sun, aboard the Deep Space Demolition and Removal space station. Despite gaining an audience, the Dug crime lord dismissed his claims with laughter, doubting the Neimoidian's assertions. Fortunately for Monchar, he departed Darnada's presence just before Darth Maul arrived to massacre Darnada and his entire organization except Asa Naga who managed to escape and warn Alexi Garyn of the assassin - all part of another concurrent scheme of Darth Sidious.
Weeks or months after the incident, Monchar went into hiding on Coruscant, where he tried to sell the holocron to information broker Lorn Pavan. He sent Pavan a message, requesting a meeting at the Dewback Inn. Upon Lorn's arrival with his Trandoshan bodyguard, Gorth, the Neimoidian revealed the valuable item in his possession and demanded 500,000 credits within an hour, threatening to find a more lucrative buyer if his demands were not met.
Determined to silence Monchar before Darth Sidious discovered his betrayal, Nute Gunray instructed Rune Haako to hire Mawhi Lhinn, a bounty hunter, to capture the rogue Neimoidian. Unbeknownst to the two cowardly dignitaries, Darth Maul had finally tracked the former Deputy Viceroy to his domicile, where he proceeded to slaughter Gorth and two Quarren henchmen. The Zabrak Sith warrior then beheaded Monchar while suspending him in the air with the Force, completing his mission and recovering the holocron for his Master.
Like many Neimoidians, Hath Monchar possessed greed and a thirst for power, qualities that Nute Gunray valued. He ingratiated himself with Gunray, becoming one of his closest subordinates. He willingly allied himself with Darth Sidious to advance his superior's and his own career, albeit with some apprehension towards their mysterious ally, similar to his colleagues. While the Neimoidians' collaboration with their Sith patron yielded profitable outcomes, Monchar eventually turned against both Sidious and Gunray, seeking to enrich himself by selling the holocron; he also claimed that he thought that members of his species were not supposed to be conquerors, but humble and successful traders. However, Monchar was also naive, as he genuinely believed he could escape the consequences of incurring the Dark Lord's wrath, despite witnessing the extent of Sidious's influence with the demise of the Trade Federation's governing board.
