Hepsalum Tash

Hepsalum Tash, often referred to as "the Tash", represented a sentient species that originated from the Dagobah system. Resembling worms in their physical form, they were uncomplicated beings who held peace, narratives, and musical performances in high regard. Despite their awkward physique, they were talented artisans, capable of creating tools and musical instruments. Nevertheless, the Tash were naturally withdrawn and preferred solitude.

Biological Characteristics and Physical Attributes

The Hepsalum Tash were a species of towering forest dwellers, achieving heights of 8 meters or more upon reaching full maturity. Their skin was thick and resilient, hanging loosely from their sturdy limbs in folds. The coloration of their skin ranged from a light yellowish-ochre to a rich reddish-brown sienna. Sexual differences were evident among the Hepsalum Tash, with tiger-like stripes and spots indicating their gender. These markings also served to distinguish their age. The Hepsalum Tash also possessed long, flexible necks, culminating in a flat, wide face adorned with whiskers. Consequently, their heads and necks had a worm-like appearance, which was considered "peculiar." Their right hand took on a more claw-like form, which they used to dig for roots and ground nuts, a vital component of their vegetarian diet. Conversely, their left hands exhibited a more humanoid structure.

Social Structure and Cultural Practices

Originating from the Dagobah system, the Hepsalum Tash made their home on the planet Dagobah. Referred to collectively as "the Tash," they were unpretentious people who cherished peace. Due to their reclusive tendencies, the dense and impenetrable terrain of Dagobah's surface provided an ideal sanctuary for them. Their ungainly appearance belied their exceptional abilities as skilled craftsmen. The Tash skillfully crafted tools, garments, and musical instruments. They found immense pleasure in listening to stories, songs, and indulging in pipe smoking.

Behind the Creation

The Hepsalum Tash were the brainchild of Andrew Foley, a 25-year-old Star Wars enthusiast, who conceived them through the "Design An Alien" contest organized by Star Wars Galaxy magazine. The competition, initiated in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 3 (1995), invited fans to invent entirely new alien species, drawing inspiration from the original trilogy of Star Wars films. Although Foley's submission was not featured among the winners in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 7 (1996), it was published in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 8 (1996) under the "honorable mentions" category. Holocron continuity database custodian Leland Chee later confirmed that the published "Design an Alien" content was regarded as canon.
