Heroes on Both Sides (comic story)

"Heroes on Both Sides," a comic featuring 20 pages, appears within the digest-sized Clone Wars Adventures comic book series. Dark Horse Comics released Heroes on Both Sides on April 12, 2006 as part of Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures Volume 5. Chris Avellone penned the comic, Stewart McKenny provided the illustrations, Michael David Thomas handled the lettering, and Dan Jackson created the colors.

Taking place during the era of the Clone Wars, the narrative of Heroes on Both Sides centers around a clone Advanced Recon Commando and a Viidaav commander. Despite being adversaries in the Battle of Viidaav, both characters independently strived to prevent a detonation sequence that threatened to eliminate their respective troops.

Plot summary

Count Dooku and General Grievous were positioned above Viidaav, where they reviewed their strategy for the forthcoming ambush. Grievous issued instructions to the droids stationed on the planet's surface to initiate the detonation sequence, while also expressing his desire for the Viidaav colonists to be remembered historically.

The transmission of the signal to the mining array was promptly detected by both the Republic and the Viidaav forces, prompting them to race against time to thwart the impending detonation. After navigating through challenges such as gunship engagements, battle droids, and security protocols, only the two commanders remained. In a climactic confrontation with only mere moments remaining before the detonation, the Viidaav leader met his demise, but not before successfully disabling the computer with a shot. The planet's salvation was attributed not only to the clone trooper but also to the actions of the Viidaav he had killed.
