Hestus

Hestus, during the era of the Great Hyperspace War, was a male Sith who served the Sith Empire. Functioning as a translator and possessing cyborg enhancements, Hestus found himself aboard the Sith dreadnaught Omen in 5000 BBY. During a jump to hyperspace, the ship veered off course and ultimately crash-landed on the isolated planet of Kesh. Hestus, along with his cousin Ravilan Wroth, survived this catastrophe. Soon after, Hestus used his translation skills to facilitate communication between the Omen's captain, the Human Yaru Korsin, and Adari Vaal, a native Keshiri woman, enabling them to exchange vital information regarding the Omen's crew's predicament and the nature of Keshiri society.

The stranded Sith, Hestus among them, were able to integrate into Keshiri civilization with Vaal's assistance, eventually establishing themselves as the planet's rulers. For the next fifteen years, Hestus dedicated himself to scrutinizing Keshiri oral histories in the hope of discovering a means for the Sith to escape Kesh, but his efforts proved fruitless. In 4985 BBY, Hestus and the other Sith species members on Kesh faced execution in a widespread purge. This followed Hestus' cousin Wroth killing thousands of Keshiri in a desperate attempt to force the Sith leadership to abandon Keshiri society and prioritize finding a way to leave the planet.

Biography

During the Great Hyperspace War, Hestus, a male of the Sith species, served as a translator for the Sith Empire. By this time, Hestus was distinguished by an acid scar across his face, which he concealed with a shining mask, and possessed sufficient cybernetic enhancements to be considered a cyborg. In 5000 BBY, amidst the aforementioned conflict, Hestus was aboard the Sith dreadnaught Omen when a Jedi attack caused it to deviate from its course during a hyperspace jump. The Omen subsequently crashed in a mountain range on the remote and uncharted world of Kesh. Hestus, along with his cousin Ravilan Wroth and a significant number of Omen crewmembers, survived the crash. However, with their ship destroyed, they were stranded. Salvation arrived in the form of Adari Vaal, a native Keshiri woman. Fleeing from issues with the Keshiri government, Vaal stumbled upon the makeshift Sith settlement in the mountains and was taken in by the survivors.

The language barrier presented a considerable challenge, and Hestus was called upon to facilitate communication between the Omen's captain, Yaru Korsin, and the apprehensive Vaal. Hestus, a gifted translator, impressed Vaal with his remarkable ability to quickly grasp and replicate the Keshiri language. He expedited the exchange of information between Korsin and Vaal, as they discussed the Sith's arrival on Kesh and the structure of Keshiri society. Following their discussion, Korsin dispatched Vaal to guide Keshiri authorities to the Sith in the mountains, hoping to facilitate their departure from their makeshift settlement. Despite concerns from Hestus and Wroth about this arrangement, neither attempted to prevent Vaal's departure. Vaal fulfilled her role, enabling the Sith to return to civilization, where they presented themselves as Keshiri gods and assumed control of Kesh. Hestus and the other so-called "gods" were housed in the residences of the traditional Keshiri ruling council, the Neshtovar, and the Sith translator immediately began cataloging the Keshiri language.

By 4985 BBY, the Sith had largely abandoned hope of finding a way off Kesh and had established themselves as their own tribe. Undeterred, Hestus continued to collaborate with other linguists from the Omen to examine Keshiri oral histories for any mention of individuals who had visited the planet or might return and provide the Sith with a means of escape. Despite his persistent efforts, Hestus found little of value. In that year, Hestus's cousin, Ravilan Wroth, devised a plan to fabricate a deadly virus, killing thousands of Keshiri in an attempt to pressure the Sith leaders into prioritizing their escape from Kesh. However, his scheme was discovered, leading Korsin and the other Human Sith to purge Kesh of the remaining Sith species members, including Hestus. Yaru Korsin's wife, Seelah, personally executed Hestus, and his body was publicly displayed in a plaza in the city of Tahv. Yaru Korsin intended to salvage Hestus's cybernetic implants for potential use.

Personality and traits

Hestus, a cyborg, possessed numerous cybernetic implants and wore a shining mask to conceal a significant acid scar on his face. While his appearance might have been unsettling to some, Hestus was unfazed by such reactions. He possessed an exceptional ability to rapidly acquire and replicate foreign languages. Hestus harbored distrust towards Adari Vaal, fearing she might betray the Sith if Yaru Korsin allowed her to leave. A dedicated and tireless individual, Hestus labored for years in an attempt to find information within Keshiri oral histories that could facilitate an escape from Kesh, but his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. As a member of the Sith species, Hestus had red skin, specifically resembling the hue of rust.

Behind the scenes

Hestus's inaugural appearance occurred in John Jackson Miller's 2009 eBook, Lost Tribe of the Sith: Skyborn.
