By the year 137 ABY, Hoge had achieved the captain's rank and commanded the Relentless, which served as the flagship for the Outer Rim Third Fleet. He observed the Sith Lord Darth Azard's execution of Admiral Sha Dun, a Kel Dor. Following this event, Admiral Dru Valan, who assumed command of the Third Fleet, instructed Hoge to replace all alien personnel, both officers and crew, with Humans throughout the fleet.
The destruction of a significant portion of the Empire's shipyards above Dac by Jaius Yorub brought the Battle of Mon Calamari to a close, an event witnessed by both Hoge and Valan. In a state of shock, Valan relinquished control of the bridge to Hoge. Upon inquiring what message to convey to Darth Azard, Valan responded with indifference, stating that Hoge could say anything he desired; subsequently, the admiral retired to his chambers to contemplate suicide.
