At first, Dooku assigned the task to General Grievous, who tried to seize the object from Senator Yarua while on a mission to the moon of Staggec. Nevertheless, Yarua gave his life to impede the general. Following the capture of Outpost 716, Asajj Ventress was dispatched by Dooku to locate the artifact. She discovered it during a mission to Naboo, but chose not to take it after understanding that Dooku held no genuine concern for her well-being.
