Hypothermia

Hypothermia was a potentially fatal condition triggered by exposure to severely cold temperatures, requiring prompt intervention. Protective measures, such as wearing multiple layers of clothing or employing a heat-generating space heater, could prevent its onset. While species originating from warmer climates, such as Rodians, were especially vulnerable, even creatures native to frigid planets, like the tauntauns of Hoth, could be affected. Tauntauns afflicted by this condition exhibited loud bleating and violent head thrashing as signs of distress. Intriguingly, even after death from hypothermia, the internal body cavity of a tauntaun could retain heat for a considerable period.

Tauntaun dies of hypothermia Han Solo's tauntaun dies from hypothermia Han Solo suffered from hypothermia in his hands during an overnight stay in the Iridium Mountains on Vandor with Tobias Beckett's gang prior to a coaxium heist in 10 BBY. Later, in 3 ABY, while serving the Alliance to Restore the Republic at Hoth's Echo Base, Solo rode a tauntaun into a snowstorm in search of the missing Luke Skywalker. The tauntaun perished from hypothermia due to the frigid conditions during this rescue mission.
