The Trio of Idiots, a collection of inept and amateurish pirates, plied their trade, poorly, in the Slice during the Republic Era. The group consisted of Ghor, Wungo, and The Lobber. They tried, unsuccessfully, to gain employment with various pirate organizations in the region. Eventually, they were grudgingly taken on by Zilastra of the Riftwalkers, who, in disgust, bestowed upon them their derogatory moniker.

During 33 BBY, the Trio of Idiots found themselves as passengers aboard the Regal Zephyr, a passenger transport traveling the Ootmian Pabol run. Their plan involved seizing control of the ship and selling it to a local pirate syndicate. Little did they know, two Jedi, the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, were also passengers. En route, Kenobi attempted to engage Ghor in conversation, which was met with hostility. Ghor then revealed a blaster, prompting his companions to brandish their own weapons and declare their intentions, demanding silence and compliance from everyone on board.
However, their scheme immediately encountered problems. They couldn't agree on their roles in the hijacking, the fate of the passengers, or which pirate gang they were supposedly acting on behalf of. The Lobber believed they were working for the Vile, Ghor for the Staved Skulls, and Wungo for the Filthy Credits. Furthermore, their inability to articulate their intentions clearly led to them being overwhelmed by the passengers' questions. In response to an elderly traveler's concerns, Lobber stated that they would be dropped off at the next stop and should consider themselves lucky to avoid being ejected into space.
At this point, Jinn intervened, attempting to de-escalate the situation. His efforts were futile as the pirates threatened him with their blasters while The Lobber and Ghor argued over who would take control of the cockpit. Their argument was interrupted by a passenger returning from the galley with her daughter. Startled by the commotion, she dropped her daughter, who was promptly levitated by Jinn to prevent her from hitting the deck. Stunned by the presence of a Force user, the trio were caught off guard when Kenobi revealed himself to be a Jedi as well. The Padawan informed them that Jinn was not only a Jedi Master but had also declined a seat on the High Council. Through clever wording, the two Jedi conveyed to the incredulous hijackers that they were serving as commercial security and subtly threatened them with secret and deadly powers.
Intimidated, Ghor and Wungo decided to surrender, even contemplating shooting Lobber for claiming leadership. However, Jinn and Kenobi dissuaded them, requesting their weapons and suggesting that everyone would be more comfortable with the trio confined to an empty cargo hold, away from the Jedi. The Lobber resisted more than his companions but eventually relented, unwilling to face the Jedi alone. They surrendered their weapons and followed Kenobi to the hold, remaining there until the next stop, Randon, where Jinn ordered them to be disembarked.
The Trio of Idiots soon departed the planet by sneaking aboard the freighter Morleen inside an empty cargo container, which they quickly discovered was too tall to escape from. They were discovered and freed when the Riftwalkers seized the vessel over Keldooine. Their leader, Zilastra, had heard of their failed hijacking attempt and was unimpressed by The Lobber's boasting. She emphasized that no one targets ships of the Regal Voyager line. Fearing for their lives after witnessing the ship's pilot being disposed of in an acid container, the aspiring pirates tried to guess Zilastra's gang, insisting that their attempt had been made for her benefit. Zilastra remained unimpressed by their stupidity, reiterating that she didn't want anyone attacking Regal Voyager's ships before ordering her second-in-command, Burlug, to dispose of them in the acid. However, Zilastra changed her mind after Lobber mentioned that they had been thwarted by Jedi, deciding to keep them alive for questioning. She then instructed the three to assist Burlug in disposing of the remaining bodies on board.

Less than a week later, Zilastra and her crew departed Keldooine aboard her flagship, the Randomizer. After being ignored by the Judicial vessel Assurance, another new Riftwalker, Hotwire, detected a Vile ship in a nearby asteroid belt. The pirate leader then dispatched Hotwire, along with the Trio of Idiots and several attack droids, to board the enemy ship. They were secretly joined by Zilastra's young protégé Kylah Lohmata. Zilastra's initial plan was to have the Vile eliminate Lobber, Ghor, and Wungo. However, thanks to Hotwire's efforts, the assault was successful, capturing the ship without a single shot fired and tractoring it back with their shuttle. This unexpected outcome forced Zilastra to keep the trio on board, fearing that others in her gang would perceive her as not rewarding success. Embarrassed by their presence within the Riftwalkers, Zilastra resolved to use the three pirates as expendable cannon fodder at the next opportunity. In the meantime, she set course for the Riftwalker's secret base on Valboraan.
During the journey, Zilastra tasked IK-111 with keeping the Trio of Idiots occupied on a hangar deck, repeatedly moving crates from one side to the other. After several transfers, they were approached by Hotwire, who inquired about how long they had been there and when the ship had jumped to hyperspace. Wungo explained that they had been there long enough for him to start naming objects, citing a barrel he had named Sarla as an example. Ghor mentioned that the jump had occurred two trips across the deck ago and that several small ships had departed from the opposite bay beforehand. Lobber then recognized the Regal Voyager logo on a company security valise that Hotwire was carrying and referenced their failed attempt to hijack the Regal Zephyr. The three pirates began to recount the incident and how Zilastra had warned them against targeting the Voyager line. At that moment, Zilastra appeared and ordered the trio to leave, a command they promptly obeyed, exiting the hangar as the Randomizer arrived at Valboraan.
Shortly after arriving at Riftwalker Headquarters, Zilastra executed her plan to assassinate the leaders of the four rival pirate gangs. Sometime later, IK-111 assigned the Trio of Idiots to clean fungus out of vents throughout the complex, which consisted of various starship components spliced together on the floor of a large underground cavern. While they were in one section, they were encountered by Kylah. Ghor and Wungo were miserable with their assigned task, but The Lobber was energetic. As the group prepared to move up to the trash compactor, he told the girl that she had come to the right place, that it was the nerve center because one could hear everything going on throughout the base. Kylah discussed the successful assassination with her companions and informed them that, at the same time, Zilastra had exposed Hotwire as a Jedi and captured her. She described the fight that had occurred and the trio told her she was lucky to be alive, considering that the Jedi could have turned her into a tree. The conversation was interrupted by Zilastra and the three pirates went back to work scrubbing the walls around them.
However, they soon interrupted Zilastra to express their reverence at Hotwire being a Jedi, which annoyed their leader, who decided to demonstrate to them that Jedi were not gods. She led Kylah and the trio to a cell where Hotwire was being held unconscious in an immobilization beam with IK-111 standing guard. The room was filled with sustained sonic burst that Zilastra explained was to keep the Jedi from concentrating enough to use her mental powers. When Lobber stated that the Jedi didn't look like much, Zilastra added that the concept was one she wished to drive home with everyone. Satisfied that she had made an impression on three of her minions, she sent them back to work.
Zilastra later learned that "Hotwire" was Depa Billaba, a member of the High Council. She mentioned this in one of a series of torture and interrogation transmissions viewed by everyone at the base, including the Idiot Three.
