IG lancer droids, alternatively referred to as IG-series battle droids, were a type of IG-series battle droid utilized by the Banking Clan's IG-series battle droid army. Functioning as a component of the InterGalactic Banking Clan Collections and Security Division, IG lancers were capable of serving as scouts or as mounted cavalry units. As members of the Banking Clan's droid army, they operated under the command structure of the Muun officer corps. As a corporate defense force, the Collections and Security Division was a part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems's military, acting as a primary defensive line for their respective worlds. These forces could also be deployed to aid allied Confederate factions and participate in specialized operations directed by the Separatist Council or their trusted allies.
The initial appearance of the IG lancer droid within Star Wars canon occurred in Darth Maul (2017) 2, a comic book from 2017 authored by Cullen Bunn and featuring illustrations by Luke Ross. Prior to their introduction into canon, these droids were conceived for Star Wars Legends, making their debut in Star Wars: Clone Wars Chapter 4. In Return of the Jedi – The Rebellion 1, the bounty hunter Lan-Drus is seen wearing a piece of headgear from an IG unit that bears a resemblance to an IG lancer, though its intended significance is unclear.
