Imperial Entanglements served as a scenario expansion for the Star Wars Miniatures Battles game. This book, the second and last addition to the game, was released by West End Games in 1996.
Beyond just scenarios, the book featured a section titled "Rules Clarifications and Upgrade." This part aimed to explain and resolve any unclear areas or oversights present in the originally published rules. Among the new content in this section was an expanded Aurebesh character set, now including common punctuation marks. Also included were game statistics for the Storm Skimmer, a vehicle that first appeared in the Star Wars: Dark Empire comic series.
A section dedicated to Troop Lists introduced fresh troop types for gameplay, adding to the initial Troop Lists found in Star Wars Miniatures Battles.
The majority of the supplement was dedicated to presenting nine scenarios for playing the game:
-
Scenario One: Big Game - A group of hunters is hired to accompany Halor Dinnoral, a retired corporate executive and wildlife enthusiast, to an unexplored world. Their task is to assist him in capturing new specimens for his private zoo. Designed as a solitaire experience, this scenario includes rules that dictate the arrival and behavior of various creatures during the game.
-
Scenario Two: Terror in the Trees - Following the Battle of Endor, stranded stormtroopers mount a revenge attack on an Ewok village situated high in the forest canopy. The Ewoks, aided by visiting Rebels and a range of traps, must defend their home.
-
Scenario Three: Hammer of Destiny - Across the lava plains of Turak IV, Rebel forces from the Hitak Harriers clash with an Imperial recovery team. Their goal: to retrieve a damaged S-1 FireHawke Heavy Repulsortank belonging to the renowned Hell's Hammers regiment.
-
Scenario Four: A Bazaar Encounter - While relaxing at a Jawa bazaar, Rebel soldiers find themselves embroiled in a conflict with members of the Krayt Draggers swoop gang, as panicked Jawas scatter around them.
-
Scenario Five: To Hunt the Hutt - Garm Trodask leads Grim Destiny, a team of bounty hunters, in pursuit of Mennac, the Hutt leader of the criminal Vanderijar clan. They corner her, her partner Jobwah, and their entourage in a docking bay on Trandivar, leading to a confrontation.
-
Scenario Six: Who Goes There? - Deep within the jungles of Mentanar Vosk, Rebel Strike Force Altagak has been effectively harassing the resident Imperial garrison. Upon discovering their base, the garrison commander dispatches stormtroopers to eliminate the threat. Forewarned, the strike force rushes towards their escape shuttle, initiating a race through the dense jungle. This scenario includes specific rules to simulate the confusing nature of jungle movement, ensuring neither side is entirely certain of their location.
-
Scenario Seven: Scavenger Hunt - During an assault on Coruscant by the Imperial Ruling Council, New Republic forces must stop a group of Scavengers from dismantling their transport. They must also contend with the scavengers themselves, their war droid, and a pack of nek battle beasts.
-
Scenario Eight: Rescue Run - A SpecForce Infiltrators strike team is tasked with locating and rescuing a Rebel operative from an Imperial field camp, where he is being held before being transferred to an interrogation facility.
-
Scenario Nine: Surprise Visit - On the planet Dennaskar, Rebel forces plan to ambush a Santhe/Sienar convoy, but the results are unexpected. This scenario was previously featured in Star Wars Adventure Journal 4.
