An Imperial Mine was constructed on the planet of Lok by the Galactic Empire amidst the Galactic Civil War.
Deep beneath the surface of the desolate planet Lok lay the Imperial mine, a subterranean complex. This mining facility, situated in a secluded area, served as a labor camp under the control of the Galactic Empire, where prisoners were forced to work. The mine was linked to a clandestine Imperial research facility also located on Lok. The extracted minerals and gases were utilized by the Empire at this research facility or sold for financial gain.
Due to a dispute between General Otto, who commanded the Imperial garrison present on Lok, and Imperial officers overseeing the mine and the research facility, the Imperial presence at the mine was minimal. To prevent General Otto's interference, these officers opted to deploy battle droids as well as mercenaries to protect the mine and the research facility, instead of requesting troops from Otto.
In the year 1 ABY, the miners inadvertently breached a gas pocket, releasing a hazardous gas throughout the mine. The air filtration system, being of poor quality, failed to prevent the gas from contaminating the miners. While the gas did not inflict physical harm, it affected their minds, ultimately driving them to madness and extreme aggression.
During this incident, a group of miners managed to evade the toxic contamination and discovered a starship, which they used to escape the mine. However, the ship crashed before they could leave Lok, resulting in no survivors. Shortly thereafter, the Lok Revenants, a criminal syndicate led by the pirate and warlord Nym, attacked the hideout belonging to the Sulfur Lake Pirates, where they acquired an Imperial droid memory module. This droid had been aboard the crashed ship, and its memory module remained intact. The data contained within revealed the dire situation at the mine to the criminals. Nym's chief engineer Jinkins then made the decision to acquire a sample of the gas released in the mine for study, with the potential to weaponize it.
Consequently, Jinkins assigned a group of spacers, recently recruited into the Lok Revenants, with the task of retrieving a sample of the toxic gas. The spacers then journeyed to the mine, where they faced numerous deranged and violent miners in combat. Furthermore, they were attacked by the Imperial droidekas guarding the facility. In the ensuing battles, the Revenants eliminated several notable miners, Raynar Cath and Wes Riggers, both enemies of Nym, along with the Grand Foreman Rel Rogock and the mine controller Teemu Komo. Additionally, they seized crates of mined ore and gathered DNA samples from the enraged miners to analyze the gas's precise effects. One of the spacers also discovered a sword within the mine. Ultimately, the spacers located the mine's air filtration system and extracted a sealed container of the poisonous gas collected by the filter. They successfully delivered it to Jinkins.
The Imperial Mine featured as a location within the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was created by Sony Online Entertainment and published through LucasArts, before its closure on December 15, 2011. The Imperial Mine was integrated into the game as a component of the "Nym's Theme Park," that was launched with the "Publish 3" on October 8, 2003. This questline was later revised upon the release of "Game Update 16: Stronghold of the Lok Revenants," on March 23, 2010.
