The designation "Jedi Commander armor" referred to the customized clone trooper armor that Jedi adopted within the Republic Military. This adoption occurred following the enactment of the Jedi Military Integration Act amidst the Clone Wars.

During the Clone Wars, after the Jedi Order was officially incorporated into the Republic Military through the Jedi Military Integration Act, the term "Jedi Commander armor" became associated with the equipment worn by Jedi. This armor, often modified from standard clone trooper armor, typically included only essential plates from clone trooper gear. The design prioritized protection while allowing Jedi to maintain their lightsaber forms and agility. Moreover, this armor served as a constant reminder of the new realities faced by the Jedi Order during the conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
However, not all Jedi chose to wear this armor, and some reduced the amount of armor they wore over time. A lighter version of the Jedi Commander armor, known as the Jedi Reconnaissance Armor, was developed during the Clone Wars and retailed for 4,000 credits.
