Jela Reneke was a Cathar smuggler (a female) who functioned as a key operative for Rogun Matt'rik during the Galactic War. This conflict pitted the Galactic Republic against the resurgent Sith Empire.
While operating on Voss, Reneke and her associate Gormak Zak successfully persuaded the Gormak to provide her with cyberbeasts. She then illicitly transported these creatures off-planet and sold them within the galactic black market. Despite reporting directly to Rogun the Butcher, she fearlessly siphoned off ten percent of his earnings without facing consequences.
Around 3640 BBY, Scratch made contact with Reneke, seeking to connect her with a potential buyer. However, Reneke recognized that this buyer was actually the Voidhound, the most significant bounty target of Rogun. Consequently, she set a trap for the smuggler, abandoning them amidst evidence of her own unlawful activities and alerting the Adjudicators. Unfortunately, Lokir-Ka intervened, delaying the Adjudicators and enabling the Voidhound's escape.
To fulfill a specialized assignment for the Sith Lord known as Wratchen, Reneke enlisted Gormak's assistance in applying cybernetic enhancements to creatures residing in the Nightmare Lands. Gormak Zak, witnessing the detrimental impact of their work on his adopted community within the Nightmare Lands, ultimately betrayed Reneke. He instead chose to support the Voidhound against her. Affected by the mind-altering influence of the Dark Heart, Reneke was engaged in a meeting with Wratchen inside Lab 68 when the Voidhound disrupted their gathering, resulting in the deaths of both Reneke and Wratchen.
