Jennifer Beals

Jennifer Beals, an actress hailing from America, took on the role of Garsa Fwip in the live-action series, The Book of Boba Fett. She gained considerable recognition for her performance as the main character in the 1983 romantic drama Flashdance, and for her starring role as Bette Porter in the series The L Word.

Biography

Beals received an offer for the role via a phone call, which she accepted, considering entering the Star Wars universe to be a significant opportunity. To prepare, she immediately commenced watching The Mandalorian.

Due to the high level of secrecy maintained by the studio, the actress was unaware of the specific Star Wars production she was involved in during filming. However, she engaged in discussions with Dave Filoni concerning her character and the Twi'lek species, exploring "about character and how is this person different perhaps than the lineage that's come before, and what has informed her experiences and then how does that change the way she looks or behaves — or dresses for that matter." Beals mentioned that she and director Robert Rodriguez discussed Fwip's character being similar to Rick Blaine from the 1942 film Casablanca. She noted that, as a woman, Fwip had to embody that power differently than Blaine, earning it rather than simply possessing it.

The lekku prosthetics worn by the actress were designed to be lightweight and perfectly balanced on her head. They were easy to wear and remove when she needed a break. Moreover, Beals shared images with costume designer Shawna Trpcic inspired by her meditations, which Trpcic then incorporated into the costume design.

Beals described her experience working on the show as "tremendous," noting that fellow cast members Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen created a "incredibly joyful" atmosphere on set. She recounted that Morrison would sing for the cast and crew between takes, and director Robert Rodriguez would play guitar in his adjacent room.
