Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, also known as The Book of Boba Fett, is a live-action series for television. The show centers on Boba Fett, and its narrative unfolds following the events of The Mandalorian's second season, but precedes the events of the third season of The Mandalorian. Its debut episode was made available on December 29, 2021. The title and release timeframe were initially hinted at in a post-credits scene following the season two finale of The Mandalorian.
In The Book of Boba Fett, an exciting Star Wars story, renowned bounty hunter Boba Fett and the mercenary Fennec Shand make their way through the criminal world of the galaxy. They journey back to Tatooine's deserts with the intention of claiming the territory that was once under the control of Jabba the Hutt and his criminal organization.
Boba Fett's live-action return to the Star Wars universe happened in The Mandalorian's "Chapter 14: The Tragedy," an episode helmed by Robert Rodriguez. Jon Favreau, the series' executive producer, chose Rodriguez to direct this important episode because he was impressed by Rodriguez's take on the character. He also made the decision to propose to Rodriguez and the studio the concept of creating more episodes that revolve around the character. Despite Rodriguez's usual avoidance of franchise projects, Boba was an exception. Rodriguez believed Boba was an under explored character, offering him the opportunity to develop what felt like an original character.

In early November 2020, reports started circulating online about a Disney+ miniseries focused on Boba Fett. These reports also indicated that filming for the series had already commenced. On December 10, 2020, Kathleen Kennedy suggested that the "next chapter" of The Mandalorian would be released around Christmas of 2021. While many fans assumed this would be the third season of The Mandalorian, "Chapter 16: The Rescue," the Season Two finale of The Mandalorian which was released on December 18, 2020, hinted that The Book of Boba Fett was actually the show set to premiere during that period.
The following Monday, Jon Favreau, the show's producer, appeared on Good Morning America which airs on the ABC Television Network. He clarified that the two shows were distinct, with The Book of Boba Fett being released first. A post on StarWars.com later that day confirmed this and stated that production for The Mandalorian Season Three would begin in 2021. Filming was officially completed on June 8, 2021, and as of September of that year, the series was still undergoing post-production.
On September 22, 2021, news broke that Ludwig Göransson would be in charge of composing the show's music. Joseph Shirley is responsible for the show's score, while Göransson created the musical themes, including the main title theme. The soundtrack for the initial four episodes was made available digitally on January 21, 2022. The soundtrack featuring the final three episodes was released digitally on February 11, 2022.
Göransson himself provided the vocals for all the elements of the main title theme. The inspiration for the theme came from Björn Isfält's score for the 1984 Swedish film Ronja Rövardotter.
The first teaser trailer was unveiled on November 1, 2021. The promotional trailers primarily featured the opening scenes of the series premiere. According to Rodriguez, the latter part of the episode revealed too much information.
