The Mandalorian Season Three represents the third installment of the American-made television program, The Mandalorian. Its initial episode was made available on March 1, 2023, and its narrative unfolds following the occurrences depicted in the series The Book of Boba Fett.
The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.
Jon Favreau, who serves as an executive producer and writer for the series, communicated to Variety on October 15, 2020, that preparations for production on The Mandalorian were proceeding as planned, with the intention of commencing before the year's end. Phil Szostak indicated that the art department at Lucasfilm Ltd. initiated the creation of concept art in November 2019, in the days leading up to the premiere of the first season. Kathleen Kennedy hinted on December 10, 2020, that the "next chapter" of The Mandalorian was slated for release around Christmas of 2021.
However, on December 21, 2020, Favreau made an appearance on Good Morning America on the ABC Television Network, where he clarified that The Book of Boba Fett was currently in the production phase and was scheduled for release in December 2021. He further noted that the third season of The Mandalorian would commence production after the conclusion of filming for The Book of Boba Fett. Later that day, a post on StarWars.com reinforced this information, confirming that production for The Mandalorian Season Three was set to begin in 2021. An announcement on Edelweiss+ for The Mandalorian: Boba Fett Returns suggested that Season 3 would be released in Spring 2022. However, this page was subsequently removed, and Boba Fett Returns was renamed The Mandalorian: The Rescue. Principal photography commenced in September 2021 and concluded in March 2022.
The Book of Boba Fett, a spinoff series, debuted on December 29, 2021, and featured several characters previously seen in The Mandalorian after the events of the second season. The timeline of the third season is set after the events of The Book of Boba Fett.
During Celebration Anaheim in 2022, it was revealed that the season would premiere in February 2023, accompanied by an exclusive teaser. It was also announced that Rick Famuyiwa would serve as an executive producer and director for the third season. On September 10, 2022, a teaser trailer for the season was made available to the public. On December 1, 2022, the release date was pushed back to March 1, 2023. The official trailer and poster were unveiled on January 16, 2023, during the halftime show of the NFL Super Wild Card matchup.
Star Wars Hong Kong announced on Facebook that Boba Fett would be returning in The Mandalorian Season Three, but the post was subsequently taken down. Ultimately, Fett did not make an appearance in the season.
