A jester was a person maintained by someone of high social standing to provide amusement. These individuals entertained those in positions of power, often through humorous acts or jokes, within the courts of their employers.
More than twelve years prior to the Battle of Endor, Salacious B. Crumb took on the role of an informal court jester for Jabba Desilijic Tiure. Jabba was a Hutt crime boss who conducted his operations from Tatooine. The agreement between them stipulated that Crumb could stay at Jabba's court, provided he successfully amused his master at least once each day. Failure to do so would result in the jester being executed.
