Junktown

Junktown, often called the junk town, and later known as the Tusken Village, was a small settlement located just outside Mos Eisley on the planet of Tatooine. Initially, it served as a hub for scrap merchants to trade, but it was eventually seized by the indigenous Tusken Raiders. Bantha Moving and Storage, which was a cover for a spice smuggling ring, utilized this site to conceal their illicit operations. Sometime after 0 BBY, a young smuggler, dispatched by Radeld Siwar, journeyed to the junk town and pilfered spice samples and formulas from the company's hidden stashes.

Description

The Tusken junk town with Mos Eisley in the background

Situated on Tatooine, a sparsely populated desert world within the Outer Rim Territories, was the village of Junktown. Positioned on the eastern edge of Mos Eisley, Junktown resembled a makeshift town, built from a variety of primitive structures, including tents and constructions made of sandstone. Junktown also featured at least one power generator, multiple harvesting machines, and a salon. A prominent grey stone-like formation also rose from the settlement.

History

The small settlement known as Junktown, also referred to as the junk town, was located in proximity to Mos Eisley. It acted as a safe haven for various junk dealers who traded in refurbished goods with the local population. Shortly following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, Junktown was raided and taken over by a band of Tusken Raiders, leading to it being known as the Tusken Village from then on.

Around this time, a former military soldier by the name of Purvis Arrison initiated his own personal vendetta against the Tusken Raiders in Junktown. A genetically altered Twi'lek who was in the service of the Galactic Empire aided Arrison by conducting reconnaissance in Junktown and eliminating a significant number of the Tusken population.

After his arrival in Mos Eisley, Han Solo directed an aspiring smuggler to a Rodian named Radeld Siwar so that he could learn the intricacies of the smuggling profession. To that end, Radeld assigned the spacer the task of investigating the nearby Junktown, as he suspected that it was being used by a smuggling operation known as Bantha Moving and Storage to conceal their illicit activities.

Behind the scenes

Junktown appeared as a location in the 2003 video game called Star Wars Galaxies, which was a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before the game was shut down on December 15, 2011.
