Kanika T'dell, a bridge cadet who was a Human, served on the Sith starship named Omen during the Great Hyperspace War in 5000 BBY. In that year, following a Jedi attack that occurred during a hyperspace jump, the Omen was diverted from its course and ended up crashing into a mountain range located on the distant planet of Kesh. T'dell lived through the crash, and in the end, she and the other surviving members of the Omen's crew made their way to civilization and seized control of the planet.
Around 4992 BBY, T'dell and Nafjan T'dell, a miner and fellow Human survivor, had a daughter, named Ebya. The T'dell parents knew Seelah Korsin, a significant figure in the Kesh Sith society, who assessed Ebya in 4985 BBY to decide if she would be permitted to reproduce.
