Karka Kre'fey, a male Bothan, was the grandson of General Laryn Kre'fey, a figure in the New Republic. The Kre'fey family's name suffered a significant blow in 6 ABY following Laryn Kre'fey's death during the First Battle of Borleias, a defeat for the New Republic attributed to the general's errors. Karka Kre'fey vehemently opposed these claims, viewing them as a stain on his family's reputation. At a gathering hosted by the Bothan Liska Dan'kre on a skyhook above the planet Coruscant in 7 ABY, Kre'fey confronted Gavin Darklighter, a pilot from Rogue Squadron, regarding Darklighter's assessment of his grandfather's alleged missteps. Kre'fey issued a challenge to Darklighter for a duel, but the pilot declined.

Karka Kre'fey, a male Bothan hailing from the esteemed Kre'fey family, belonged to a distinguished lineage of Bothan leaders. This lineage included his grandfather, General Laryn Kre'fey of the New Republic, who was then the most celebrated military figure among the Bothans, and his brother, who later became Admiral Traest Kre'fey. In 6 ABY, Laryn Kre'fey masterminded the first battle of Borleias, a New Republic operation aimed at seizing the planet Borleias. The general's death occurred during this battle, which resulted in a significant setback for the New Republic forces. This defeat was partly attributed to Laryn's flawed strategies and decisions, leading to a tarnished reputation for the Kre'fey family. Kre'fey disputed the accusations leveled against his grandfather, believing that they dishonored the general and his family's legacy.
In 7 ABY, Kre'fey was present at an opulent party held on a skyhook overlooking the planet Coruscant, hosted by the affluent Bothan Liska Dan'kre. The majority of the guests were fellow members of the species. During this event, Kre'fey, accompanied by two Bothan subordinates, approached Gavin Darklighter, a human pilot from Rogue Squadron who had participated in the battle of Borleias. Kre'fey introduced himself and inquired whether Darklighter concurred with the claims regarding his grandfather's alleged errors during the battle. Upon Darklighter's affirmative response, Kre'fey unexpectedly struck him across the left cheek, catching the pilot by surprise and nearly causing him to fall.

Darklighter expressed his understanding of the Bothan's distress over his grandfather's passing, but Kre'fey instead accused the pilot of defaming his grandfather's and family's honor. Despite Darklighter's disinterest in a confrontation and an attempt by the diplomat Herrit Gordon to intervene, Kre'fey dared the pilot to a duel. Darklighter, drawing on a newfound sense of discipline acquired from his squadron and recognizing that ignoring Kre'fey's provocations would be more damaging than physical harm, declined to engage in combat – a decision that ultimately benefited Kre'fey.
The Bothan labeled Darklighter a coward, but the pilot countered that Kre'fey was not his adversary. Darklighter pointed out that Kre'fey would honor his grandfather more by continuing his mission rather than concealing his mistakes. Darklighter extended a handshake to Kre'fey, but the Bothan rejected the gesture and departed, followed by his subordinates. After Kre'fey's departure, Gordon commended Darklighter on his handling of the situation. Later, when speaking with Asyr Sei'lar, a Bothan Rogue Squadron pilot and Darklighter's lover, the Bothan Councilor Borsk Fey'lya acknowledged the resolution of the "Kre'fey problem" as evidence of Darklighter's competence. In 25 ABY, while conversing with Admiral Traest Kre'fey, Darklighter noted the admiral's resemblance to Karka and his grandfather.

Karka Kre'fey had the creamy white fur and golden eyes typical of the Kre'fey family, and looked very similar to his brother and grandfather. His height matched Gavin Darklighter's at 1.8 meters, but he wasn't as muscular as the pilot.
Like many Bothans, Karka Kre'fey had a strong sense of pride. He believed that the reports of Laryn Kre'fey's failure at Borleias brought disgrace to his family. He was so focused on defending his family's honor that he started a fight with Darklighter about it. Kre'fey was angry when he approached Darklighter and was upset by what he thought was the pilot's insult to his grandfather's honor. The Bothan attacked Darklighter without warning and was determined to challenge him to a duel, thinking the pilot was a coward when he refused to fight. When Darklighter offered his hand to Kre'fey, the Bothan refused it, snarling and walking away instead.
Karka Kre'fey's first appearance was in Michael A. Stackpole's 1996 novel, X-Wing: The Krytos Trap.
