Tauntaza, who was the Imperial governor of Gabredor III during the Galactic Empire's reign, invented a device capable of siphoning energy from living beings. This device was eventually used on Karolia, an event that deeply saddened Doctor Aira. Sometime between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, [Darth Vader](/article/anakin_skywalker], the Sith Lord, and Commander Sabé sought to locate the governor after she started utilizing the Crimson Dawn criminal organization to strengthen her authority. Vader and Sabé encountered the governor at a science colony on Gabredor III, where she had relocated her power-draining technology for removal, but Crimson Dawn helped her flee. Following the governor's escape, Aira explained the technology and its impact to Sabé and Vader. To illustrate the technology's impact, the doctor projected a hologram of Karolia.
