Kavel Mesa
Captain Kavel Mesa held the position of Chief Logistics Officer at Haven Base, a Rebel Alliance installation located on the planet Arbra, throughout the Galactic Civil War. As a key figure overseeing Haven Base's construction inside an extensive network of caverns, Mesa was assigned to lead a unique initiative in 3 ABY: the deployment of five Kerts-Bhrg field generators to establish a protective environmental field around the Rebel fleet. Directly reporting to Rebel leader Leia Organa, Mesa's project aimed to enable the Alliance to conceal its ships within the chromosphere of the adjacent star, Arbran, through this innovative experiment. During the preliminary testing of the fields, a noxious gas infiltrated the control generator's command center due to an absorption circuit malfunction. Before the circuit's repair, Captain Mesa, along with several maintenance personnel, briefly lost consciousness.
Behind the scenes
Kavel Mesa's character debuted in Star Wars 58, which was penned by David Michelinie, with illustrations by Walter Simonson, and was published in 1982. A notable discrepancy exists concerning Mesa's rank within the Legends continuity, as indicated by various sources. Specifically, both Arbra: Sanctuary In the Storm, a Wizards of the Coast supplement, and The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia inconsistently identify Mesa as both a Captain and a Colonel within close proximity. Given that Mesa's original depiction in Star Wars 58 identifies him as a Captain, he is designated as such for the purposes of this article.
