Kell Lapaz was a Bith mercenary of the male gender who existed during the Galactic Civil War era.
Following the Battle of Yavin, the Galactic Empire hired Kell Lapaz and his band of mercenaries to provide protection for a clandestine Imperial research facility situated on the planet Lok. A dispute existed between General Otto, who commanded the Imperial garrison on Lok, and the Imperial officers overseeing the research facility; as a result, the officers chose to utilize mercenaries and battle droids for facility security instead of requesting troops from Otto. Udo Barnet and Kell Lapaz jointly led the mercenaries, with Barnet also managing numerous activities within the facility beyond just security duties. The mercenaries found their work at the Imperial Research Facility to be quite tedious, and some, including Kell Lapaz, Udo Barnet, Kendo Ryzak, Platt Pareja, Goll Bardok and Jeran Tarven, became involved in illicit endeavors. Their frequent interference in the affairs of the Lok Revenants, the most influential criminal syndicate on Lok, incited the wrath of their leader, the warlord Nym.
In 1 ABY, Nym, along with his second-in-command Kole, made the decision to attack the Imperial research facility with the goal of stealing the weapons being developed there. While the criminals were formulating their strategy, Grenz Zittoun, another of Nym's lieutenants, recognized that an assault on the facility could present a golden opportunity to eliminate some bothersome mercenaries. Subsequently, a group of spacers associated with the Lok Revenants launched an assault on the research facility. They had to engage in combat with numerous mercenaries to gain entry to the research complex, but they ultimately succeeded in acquiring experimental weaponry and research data. During the conflict, a contingent of Revenants ambushed Kell Lapaz and Udo Barnet, resulting in their deaths during the ensuing gunfight.
Kell Lapaz was a Non-Player Character featured in the video game Star Wars Galaxies (2003), a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game created by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts, prior to its termination on December 15, 2011. The character of Kell Lapaz was incorporated into the game as part of the updated "Nym's Theme Park," which was released with "Game Update 16," on March 23, 2010.
