Keraan

Keraan was a human woman, and she reigned as the queen of the city-state of Firevale. Firevale was located on the planet Gansevor, and Keraan's reign occurred around the year 382 BBY.

Biography

During the time that Keraan ruled, Firevale held a very profitable exclusive right to the rare mineral called baudraxite. This mineral was extracted from within Firevale's territory, specifically in the mountains situated above the Nomad Plains of Gansevor. This monopoly created feelings of animosity from the rival city-state of Bethune. Around 382 BBY, Keraan's son, Prince Colden, entered into marriage with Princess Sicatra, who was a descendant of Bethune's royal family. Colden then brought her back to Firevale. Bethune considered the marriage to be an 'abduction' and used it as a pretext to besiege Firevale without any prior warning. They dispatched a large army under the command of Field Marshal Tozen to begin bombarding the city's defenses. Fortunately for Keraan, her envoy who was stationed at the planetary capital managed to get a message to the Republic's Office of the Frontier and request assistance in resolving the conflict. The appeal was received by the Jedi Knights Porter Engle and Barash Silvain, who traveled to Firevale to provide much-needed support and to investigate the underlying causes of the dispute.

While Engle was occupied with the besieging army, which had been reinforced by a mercenary force led by Abediah Viess, Silvain conducted interviews with the members of Firevale's royal family. This included a meeting with Keraan herself, who soon began to argue with her son, Colden. She criticized his decision to marry Sicatra, blaming it for bringing so much suffering to their home city. Their argument was interrupted by the arrival of Sicatra, who convinced Silvain that she and Colden were innocent victims caught in the middle of the conflict. However, unbeknownst to Keraan and the Jedi, Sicatra and Colden had actually orchestrated the siege with the intention of forcing Keraan to step down from her position in favor of her son. This would allow Colden to include Bethune in the baudraxite trade. This entire scheme was exposed when Sicatra's ally, Tozen, was betrayed and killed on the battlefield by Viess, who desired to plunder Firevale. The bombardment intensified as Viess targeted buildings within the city, leading Keraan to order the evacuation of the citizens into the baudraxite mines located beneath the city. A distressed Sicatra confessed her plot to Silvain, and Keraan responded by attempting to kill her daughter-in-law with a dagger. Silvain intervened, using the Force to prevent Keraan from carrying out the act. Sicatra then delivered a speech to the Bethunian soldiers, successfully persuading them to abandon the siege and turn against Viess' mercenaries.
