Kern was a Zabrak male, a Dark Acolyte who fought for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. He carried a red double-bladed lightsaber that resembled Darth Maul's.
During the Clone Wars' initial year, Kern and fellow Dark Acolyte Ror spearheaded the Attack on Kashyyyk with Trandoshan assistance. Their primary mission: eliminate the Jedi Outpost and capture Jedi Master Mavra Zane and her Padawans. After Zane's capture, they gave chase to the Star Runner in Star Couriers as it attempted to breach the Separatist blockade, ultimately failing to achieve their full secondary objective. Subsequently, they relocated the combined Trandoshan and Confederate fleet to Felucia.
Amidst the Felucia uprising, Marva Zane and her Padawans were seized again and sentenced to death at the Ancient Abyss. Kern and Ror were present, alongside Shu Mai, the Presidente of the Commerce Guild. With assistance from Yoda and the Star Runner, the Jedi freed themselves. Shu Mai fled, leaving Kern and Ror to confront Marva and her Padawans, where the Dark Acolytes met their demise in battle.
Their deaths provided Shu Mai with the necessary time to escape with her fleet and launch an Invasion of Coruscant. The two Acolytes were not the last Zabrak followers of Count Dooku. A year later, Dooku journeyed to Dathomir seeking a new apprentice to replace Asajj Ventress.
Kern is a character featured in the Jedi Destiny segment of Kinect Star Wars, a video game released in 2012 exclusively for Kinect. He is also among the lightsaber duelists. The game's credits list him as Darth Kern. However, as he is not referred to by the Darth title in the game, and given the existence of two established Sith Lords during that period, this is likely a mistake in the credits.
