The Kilji homeland served as the original territory of the Kilji species, situated within the Unknown Regions. From this origin point, the Kilji nation known as the Kilji Illumine initiated a period of expansion, undertaking conquests across numerous worlds in the Unknown Regions. Their objective was to disseminate what the Illumine considered to be enlightenment.
In the year 18 BBY, the Illumine forged an alliance with the combative Grysk species. Generalirius Nakirre, the leader of the Illumine, at one juncture desired to kill "Jixtus", the Grysk operative and military commander, as retribution for the manipulation the Kilji had endured at the hands of the Grysk. Nevertheless, the Grysks possessed crucial information: the covert location of the Illumine's Kilhorde battle fleet and, more significantly in Nakirre's view, the coordinates of the Kilji homeland. Consequently, Nakirre was afraid that an assault on Jixtus would trigger a retaliatory assault by a fleet of Grysk warships, leading to the annihilation of the Kilji species. Instead, he chose to continue supporting Jixtus's military campaign.
The 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the concluding book of Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy penned by Timothy Zahn, included a reference to the Kilji homeland.
