The title of generalirius was bestowed upon the leader of the Kilji Illumine, a nation comprised of the Kilji species. This individual commanded the Illumine Kilhorde, the battle fleet of the Illumine, and guided the adherents of the Illumine's religion. The Kilji Overlords of the Illumine were responsible for approving the generalirius's decisions.
In the year 18 BBY, Nakirre of the Kilji held the position of generalirius for the Illumine, leading the Kilji war cruiser known as the Whetstone along with various Kilji vassals who practiced the Illumine's religion. Within the Unknown Regions' "Sunrise" system, he met his death at the hands of his former Grysk associate, "Jixtus," aboard the Whetstone. This occurred after the Paataatus Hiveborn nation destroyed the Kilhorde, rendering Nakirre of no further use to the Grysk operative.
The Kilji Illumine, a nation of the Kilji species situated in the Unknown Regions, utilized the title of generalirius. The nation's ruler held this title and commanded the Illumine Kilhorde, which served as the Illumine's battle fleet. Maintaining composure and wisdom, rather than displaying fear, was expected of the generalirius to uphold their dignity. They were tasked with leading the followers of the Illumine's Kilji way of order and enlightenment religion, the Kilji vassals, who were entirely dependent on their generalirius for direction and thought. Consequently, the vassals obeyed every command of the ruler without hesitation. The Kilji Overlords of the Illumine had the authority to approve all decisions made by the generalirius.

In 18 BBY, the commander of the Grysk's HopeBreaker, a Shatter-class WarMaster, engaged in conversation with Admiral Ar'alani of the Chiss Ascendancy aboard the Nightdragon man-of-war _Vigilant within the "Sunrise" system, a star system in the Unknown Regions. Following this interaction with the Grysk, who mentioned the title of generalirius, and the subsequent destruction of the HopeBreaker, Ar'alani considered that this title might be akin to that of generalissimo, a title held by the primary civilian and chief military commander of several nations beyond the Unknown Regions Tarleev location.
During that same year, Nakirre of the Kilji served as the generalirius, governing the Illumine and leading the Kilhorde from the Kilji war cruiser Whetstone, from which he commanded numerous vassals. With the approval of the Kilji Overlords, Nakirre began traveling with the coordinator of the Grysks, an operative known as "Jixtus," who pledged to guide the Kilhorde's conquests of enlightenment. In return, the generalirius permitted the Grysk to travel on his war cruiser as they orchestrated a crisis within the Ascendancy, while the Illumine's battle fleet conquered numerous worlds and populations to the southeast of the Chiss nation.
However, the Chiss and the Paataatus Hiveborn joined forces to destroy the Kilhorde, liberating the worlds and peoples that the Illumine fleet had conquered. Following the destruction of the Kilhorde by a Paataatus attack fleet, the Whetstone journeyed to the Sunrise system, where Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo of the Chiss informed Nakirre of his fleet's destruction at the hands of the Paataatus. This revelation led Jixtus to kill the generalirius, deeming him useless without the Kilhorde.
The title of generalirius was initially introduced in Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, a novel penned by Timothy Zahn as the second installment in his Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy. The novel was released on April 27, 2021. Nakirre, a generalirius, made an appearance in the third volume of the trilogy, Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, which was released on November 16 of the same year.
