Krakana underwater fighter

The Krakana underwater fighter functioned as a vehicle utilized by the Mon Calamari Rangers in their battles against the Galactic Empire of Darth Krayt.

Characteristics

Krakana fighters defend Calamari refugees.

The Krakana was a single-pilot fighter designed for use in the waters of Dac. It bore a resemblance to a marine animal, featuring a sizable tailfin for propulsion and four laser cannons configured to resemble pincers. The underwater craft was armed with a total of six laser cannons: two positioned near the center of the hull, and the remaining four affixed to the appendages extending from the sides. The vehicle's name was derived from the dangerous Krakana, a local aquatic predator. At least one of these fighters featured a depiction of the predator painted on its underside.

History

These vehicles served to safeguard Mon Calamari refugees who were being systematically hunted by the forces of Darth Krayt. This hunting was part of the Emperor's scheme to eliminate the Mon Calamari species. The Mon Calamari Rangers engaged the Imperial Shark fighters directly with the Krakana, enabling Mon Calamari civilians to evade annihilation.

Behind the scenes

The Krakana underwater fighters made their debut appearance in Fight Another Day, a story arc from 2009 within the Star Wars: Legacy comic series. John Ostrander was the writer, and Omar Francia was the penciler.
