A massive krayt dragon pearl being held by a Tusken Raider.
Within the bellies of krayt dragons, a species of sizable creatures native to the desert planet of Tatooine, one could discover krayt dragon pearls, which are gastroliths. These pearls were incredibly precious and uncommon.
A krayt dragon that has been slain, and a pearl being recovered.
Krayt dragons lived for substantial periods, and to aid in their digestion, they would swallow stones. The rocks would be broken down and ultimately dissolved by the corrosive digestive fluids. On occasion, a stone would have a kyber crystal; this crystal would remain in the dragon's stomach, being refined throughout its life, eventually taking the form of a smooth sphere. The size of these pearls ranged from the size of a palm to bigger than a humanoid's head. These pearls, being created from kyber, had uses in lightsabers. A lightsaber using one of these pearls as a component would produce an extremely potent and devastating blade, accompanied by a howling sound when activated.
Johhar Kessen, a former senator and well-known big game hunter, considered a polished krayt dragon pearl paperweight to be the most prestigious trophy one could obtain on Tatooine. In the year 9 ABY, a group of Tusken Raiders came across a pearl inside the dead body of a leviathan krayt dragon.
