Kuru participated as a swoop racer of the Arcona species. On the planet Rion, during the Rion Swoop, Kuru met Han Solo, a smuggler also participating in the race. Kuru worked with racers such as Makta to undermine him and deliver him to the Galactic Empire in exchange for a bounty. Despite Kuru's scheme, Solo, aided by Luke Skywalker, was victorious.
