Rion Swoop

Following the Battle of Yavin, an event that initiated the era of 0 ABY, a swoop race took place on Rion, a planet situated in the Outer Rim. This competition was designed to crown the Rion Swoop Champion. The victor was set to receive a trophy in addition to 1000 credits. Han Solo, the [smuggler],(/article/smuggler) participated in this race while he was on a mission to acquire essential trade goods for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. His intention was to utilize the prize money to bolster the Alliance's financial standing. Before the race commenced, Solo crossed paths with Takvax, a bounty hunter, as well as Kuru, another racer. Recognizing the substantial Imperial bounty placed on Solo's capture, the two devised a plan to apprehend him during the race to claim the reward.

Solo, Kuru, and Makta, a Twi'lek who was also involved in the scheme to capture Solo, were among at least six racers. As the race got underway, Kuru and Matka intentionally collided their swoops with Solo's, attempting to force him into an accident. However, Solo effectively damaged Matka's stabilizer, thereby removing her from the competition. Subsequently, Kuru employed a turbo-booster to gain an advantage over Solo and launched thermite micro-missiles in Solo's direction. Before the missiles could hit their mark, Luke Skywalker, a companion of Solo, maneuvered another swoop into the path of the missiles and then leaped onto Solo's vehicle. While Skywalker's swoop was destroyed by the missiles, he and Solo were still able to overtake Kuru and secure the race victory.
