Laparo, a Frigosian female, practiced cryptosurgery within the walls of Maz Kanata's castle, where the pirate held court. Laparo, in collaboration with Thromba, extended their cosmetic surgical services to various clients, including the lawbreaker Ryn Biggleston. The First Order's assault during the Battle of Takodana, which resulted in the razing of Kanata's castle, also led to the obliteration of Thromba's laboratory, an event that occurred after the Hosnian system's destruction.
Around thirty years following the Battle of Endor, Laparo, a Frigosian female hailing from Tansyl 5, teamed up with fellow Frigosian Thromba as a cryptosurgeon. They leased a tower in Maz Kanata's castle on the planet Takodana, where they provided cosmetic alterations for individuals seeking anonymity. After killing her criminal associate BeeLee Amdas, the criminal Ryn Biggleston sought out Thromba and Laparo's services. Unbeknownst to Biggleston, the pair altered her appearance to resemble Amdas, and then pilfered a cache of credits she had concealed near the castle. The client then absconded without payment, only to be apprehended shortly thereafter when she was recognized as the criminal Amdas.
Later, Thromba and Laparo were present in the castle's central hall when Han Solo, a smuggler, entered alongside Rey, a scavenger, Finn, a former stormtrooper, and BB-8, an astromech droid. Soon after the group's arrival, many of the castle's inhabitants rushed outside to witness the destruction of the Hosnian system by the First Order's Starkiller Base superweapon, after which the First Order's forces attacked and annihilated both Kanata's castle and the cryptosurgeon's laboratory.
"The Face of Evil," a short story penned by Landry Q. Walker, marked Laparo's debut appearance. This story was part of Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a cross-media campaign leading up to the release of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens in 2015. Subsequently, she and Thromba made brief appearances as supporting characters in the film itself.
