The lightspear represented a specific class of weapon powered by a kyber crystal. A Sith once possessed such a lightspear, embedding a blood-red kyber crystal within it, a crystal imbued with agony and fury via instilled means. Much later, around 232 BBY, Jedi Master Jora Malli recovered this archaic lightspear and, largely for academic exploration, executed the purification ritual upon the weapon's kyber crystal, transforming its color to a brilliant white. Subsequently, Malli utilized this crystal in the construction of her personal lightsaber.
The novel Light of the Jedi, published in 2021 and penned by Charles Soule, featured the lightspear; this novel was a component of Phase I within the broader Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
