Lightsabers were constructed using crystals derived from Lignan ore.
Lignan was an uncommon ore possessing formidable power connected to the dark side of the Force. Its primary source was the Ligna System, but it could also be located within the Phaegon system, specifically on the moon known as Phaegon III. When a user channeled the Force through this ore, their abilities experienced significant amplification; however, the ore would be entirely consumed in the process, turning to ash. A sensation of light-headedness was reported following its utilization. In 5000 BBY, the Sith Lord Naga Sadow dispatched Captain Saes Rrogon aboard the Harbinger and Yaru Korsin on the Omen with orders to mine Lignan ore. This was intended to support the impending invasion of the galaxy by the Sith Empire. This endeavor was thwarted by the intervention of Jedi Master Relin Druur and his Padawan, Drev Hassin, who assaulted the Sith forces. During the Sith's attempted escape, the Omen was diverted to the isolated planet Kesh, where the Sith survivors were marooned until 41 ABY. Meanwhile, the Harbinger entered an unstable hyperlane, resulting in time travel to 41 ABY. Those who survived on the Omen utilized the Lignan to create Lignan crystals, which they then employed as lightsaber crystals for the most esteemed members of their Tribe.
