The Lorell Raiders constituted a pirate organization operating within the Hapes Cluster. This cluster of stars was tightly grouped and situated in the Inner Rim region of the galaxy, their activities occurred prior to 4000 BBY.
Dominated by males, these pirates engaged in the widespread looting of numerous planets beyond the treacherous Transitory Mists. They seized vessels, plundered valuable goods, and kidnapped attractive human women, whom they brought as prizes to the hidden worlds of the Hapes Cluster to bear their children, and they preyed upon the trade lanes utilized by the Galactic Republic.
After the annihilation of the male pirates by the combined forces of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, their descendants, primarily women and children, collectively pledged that they would never again be ruled by men. This led to the formation of a matriarchal society known as the Hapes Consortium. The isolated nature of their gene pool subsequently resulted in the evolution of a near-human species recognized as the Hapans.
They acquired knowledge of secure pathways through the dangerous Transitory Mists surrounding the cluster, becoming the first to discover the only suspected hyperspace entry point into the Hapes Cluster. They sought refuge there, accompanied by numerous abducted individuals, and any other treasures they plundered, such as ships and cargo. The Lorell Raiders grew into a formidable, yet loosely organized, confederation of pirates, and would also abduct beautiful human women and bring them back to Hapes where the women would stay on Hapes and raise their children, only returning to Hapes to rest after each raid. The lives of the captured inhabitants were filled with suffering, as the captured women were casually sold among the pirates as slaves.
The Lorell Raiders eventually escalated their activities by targeting the trade routes of the Galactic Republic. They had become excessively audacious, concentrating the bulk of their forces on an extensive campaign of unhindered pillaging. Only the women, children, and a small number of enforcers remained behind. This practice persisted for numerous years. However, they were largely destroyed near Lorell around 4030 BBY after refusing to surrender, by a waiting Republic taskforce led by the Jedi under Arca Jeth. With no means of escape, the Lorell Raiders fought until their ultimate defeat.
Subsequently, the women who had been forced into servitude initiated a swift, yet violent, uprising that resulted in the elimination of the last remaining Lorell Raiders. They then established a new matriarchal society known as the Hapes Consortium, where men would never hold positions of power, instead governed by an all-powerful Queen Mother. Due to their isolated gene pool, they evolved into the near-Human Hapans, who subsequently harbored a deep-seated animosity towards the Jedi for the death they brought to the raiders.
