Lorem

Lorem functioned as a member of the Galactic Empire's transmission recovery and processing unit for Project Swarm, an initiative aimed at uncovering the Alliance to Restore the Republic's hidden headquarters during the Galactic Civil War. Recently joining the Imperial ranks, Lorem was tasked with examining and categorizing data packets transmitted by the 100,000 Viper probe droids participating in the project, each deployed to various worlds to gather footage in the search for the base.

While on duty in the unit's processing room in 3 ABY, Lorem's voice echoed as she engaged her colleagues, inquiring which of the ten most recently transmitted locations they would choose to reside in indefinitely. Dirjo Harch, a colleague, brushed aside the question, urging her to prioritize her work, but Lorem insisted, asserting their right to enjoy themselves. Azier, a more experienced data analyst, remarked that Admiral [Firmus Piett](/article/firmus_piett], their superior, likely did not prioritize amusement, eliciting a giggle from Lorem. Azier then responded to Lorem's query, stating his preference for remaining on the starship where they worked over residing in any of the locations he had observed.

Lorem, Azier, and their colleague Maela then deliberated on the fact that not all probe droids would return, as some would face destruction, prompting Lorem to jokingly suggest that the unit would conclude its work by the end of the day. Subsequently, she inquired whether any droids had been dispatched to Maela's homeworld, Vulpter, which Lorem inferred to be in the Deep Core based on her colleague's accent. Maela's negative response to droids being sent to Vulpter prompted Azier's laughter, and Harch clarified that Vulpter was the primary construction site for the Vyper probe droids.

Following the departure of Lorem, Azier, and Harch from the room, Maela came across a data packet originating from a probe droid on the planet Hoth, revealing evidence of the rebel base. She communicated her discovery to Harch via comms, prompting him and the rest of the team to reconvene at her station. After the group concurred on the report's significance, Harch assumed control of Maela's station to transmit the footage to Piett, although Lorem questioned why Maela should not be the one to send it and receive the credit. Azier echoed her sentiment, but Maela proceeded to another station to continue reviewing footage.

Based on the footage, the Empire deployed forces to Hoth, achieving victory against the Alliance during the Battle of Hoth. Confirmation of the report's accuracy was relayed from Piett's flagship, the Executor, prompting Lorem to pat Maela on the shoulder and offer congratulations. Harch proposed a celebration, leading Lorem to seize Maela's hand and draw her away from her station to join them. Despite the triumph, the team persisted in their efforts to locate the relocated rebels.

Lorem was able to maintain a constant stream of conversation with her colleagues while sorting through data, consistently displaying a cheerful demeanor and a belief in the possibility of combining work with enjoyment. Maela admired Lorem's multitasking capabilities, a trait not shared by Harch, and valued working with Lorem to the extent that she would have chosen her and Azier as teammates over Harch. Lorem had dark curly hair.

Lorem enjoyed pushing the boundaries of the dress code, positioning her cap at a jaunty angle over her curls, but never to the point of giving Harch justification for reporting her.

Lorem made her debut in "Eyes of the Empire," a short story penned by Kiersten White and featured in the 2020 anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.
