Lucy Lawless, a New Zealander actress, was born in Mount Albert, New Zealand on March 29, 1968. She gained significant recognition for her portrayal of Xena in the television series Xena: Warrior Princess. Additionally, she is known for her roles as Number Three in Battlestar Galactica and Lucretia in Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its subsequent seasons. In the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, Lawless provided the voice for an Aeosian Queen in the episodes "The New World" and "No Place Safe," both of which premiered on January 12, 2020. The announcement of her casting in Resistance occurred on August 14, 2019.
Lawless was being considered for a different Star Wars part around 2021. However, after fans advocated for her to take the place of Gina Carano—the actress who played [Cara Dune](/article/carasynthia_dune], a marshal of the New Republic in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, before her dismissal—Lawless felt that she had become a choice that was too "political" and that she may have consequently missed out on the chance to work for the franchise.
