Lujayne Forge was a female Human hailing from Kessel. Serving the New Republic Defense Force, she skillfully piloted for the renowned Rogue Squadron. During a sudden assault on Talasea by Imperial stormtroopers, she tragically perished in her sleep, becoming the first pilot to die in the newly re-established elite squadron.
Lujayne's parents were Kassar and Myda Forge, and she was born on Kessel. Kassar, a teacher, volunteered for a Galactic Republic initiative that aimed to teach prisoners how to reintegrate into society after their release. Her mother, one of Kassar's inmate students, fell in love with him and decided to stay on Kessel with him.
Lujayne had several siblings (including Inyri), all of whom were still alive and residing on Kessel as of 6.5 ABY. She consistently expressed to her family her desire to become a hero, aiming to demonstrate that something positive could emerge from Kessel, a goal that Commander Wedge Antilles and Corran Horn affirmed she achieved during her time with Rogue Squadron.
Through her father's instruction, she acquired various practical skills, including landspeeder maintenance. Her proficiency in the upkeep and repair of T-47 airspeeders proved especially valuable during her tenure with Rogue Squadron.
Lujayne was sensitive about and strongly protective against others associating her and her family with the negative reputation of prisoners and smugglers commonly linked to Kessel, the prison planet. When Corran Horn, a fellow Rogue agent and former Corellian Security Force officer, specifically targeted her craft during a training exercise, she confronted Horn, questioning whether it was because of her Kessel origins.
Horn later mentioned that this encounter significantly influenced his perspective, helping him to avoid prejudging individuals based on their backgrounds, particularly when he eventually encountered Inyri.
Wedge Antilles selected Lujayne as one of the original pilots when he re-formed Rogue Squadron in 6.5 ABY. Her designated call sign was Rogue Eleven. She was a member of the squadron's Three Flight, which was commanded by Lieutenant Corran Horn.
Andoorni Hui was her roommate and wingmate, which initially presented a challenge for Lujayne because she had rarely interacted with Rodians before and was unfamiliar with Rodese.
While she possessed sufficient piloting skills to join the squadron, her scores were among the lowest compared to her fellow pilots, and she openly acknowledged that she was not at the same level as Corran Horn and Bror Jace. She was visibly relieved when Gavin Darklighter, who did not achieve any kills during a dogfight against Imperial TIEs at Hensara, was jokingly dubbed "worst pilot in the squadron" instead of herself.
Wedge informed his superiors that Lujayne was not the squadron's best pilot, but she was a "fighter" and a prudent pilot who "did not take chances."
Corran regarded Lujayne as the heart of the unit, consistently caring for the physical and emotional well-being of her fellow Rogues. Gavin, the youngest pilot in the inaugural squadron, developed a close bond with Lujayne, and she mentored him, helping him enhance his astronavigation abilities.
She also assisted Corran Horn in repairing the engine of his X-wing starfighter and encouraged Corran, who was initially reserved with his fellow pilots and hesitant to collaborate with teammates, to engage with and integrate himself among the other Rogue Squadron members.
During a clandestine assault by a stormtrooper platoon on a Rogue Squadron training facility on Talasea, Lujayne Forge was killed in her sleep. Although six sentries were killed and Corran Horn, Gavin Darklighter, and Andoorni Hui sustained serious injuries during the surprise attack, Forge was the only Rogue Squadron pilot to die.
Her death had a particularly profound impact on Rogue Squadron, both because of her attentiveness to her pilots and because of the dishonorable manner in which she was killed, murdered in cold blood rather than dying in combat. As Wedge predicted, her death was especially difficult for Gavin Darklighter, due to the fact that Forge was teaching Darklighter astronavigation skills, thus they had a closer connection as a teacher and student.
A large memorial service was held for Lujayne and the six fallen sentries, attended by Wedge, Rogue Squadron, Admiral Ackbar, General Horton Salm and his Defender Wing, and the crew and medical personnel of the Nebulon-B frigate Reprieve. Despite her serious injuries, Andoorni Hui was permitted to leave her bacta tank and attend the memorial in a hover chair.
Inyri Forge, Lujayne's sister, later joined Rogue Squadron to honor Lujayne after proving herself in the conquest of Coruscant.
