Lord Malameu Toda was a chieftain and warrior of the Tammuz-an species, hailing from their home planet of the same designation. He resided in a sprawling castle alongside Gerin, his spirited daughter, and Coby, his idealistic son. As the commander of a substantial force of capable Tammuz-an warriors, Toda frequently clashed with King Mon Julpa, the planet's ruling monarch.
Prior to the Battle of Yavin by several years, Mon Julpa sought to establish a cessation of conflict between his kingdom and the territories governed by Lord Toda. Journeying to Toda's castle, he presented a charter of peace. Toda, however, viewed the king's proposal with skepticism, suspecting a hidden agenda to overthrow him. It was Gerin, his daughter, who ultimately swayed him to consider the possibility of a treaty.
Tragically, before the peace agreement could be finalized, the pirate Gir Kybo Ren-Cha broke free from imprisonment and abducted Gerin. Given Kybo's prior role as a warden in Mon Julpa's dungeons, Toda held Julpa responsible for both Kybo's escape and the subsequent kidnapping of his daughter. Kybo absconded with an R-22 Spearhead starfighter, transporting Gerin to the swampy world of Bogden. In response, Toda ordered Mon Julpa's arrest.
From Bogden, Captain Kybo transmitted a message, stipulating Gerin's return to Tammuz-an upon the release of his incarcerated crew. Mon Julpa implored Toda to permit his assistance in rescuing Gerin, cautioning that Kybo was untrustworthy and unlikely to honor the agreement. Reluctantly, Toda consented to collaborate with Mon Julpa on a covert rescue operation. They modified Kybo's confiscated attack ship, the Dianoga, equipping it with a concealed cargo bay capable of concealing a squadron of Toda's most skilled warriors. They freed Jyn Obah, Kybo's first mate (along with the rest of the crew), allowing them to depart Tammuz-an. Unbeknownst to the pirates, Toda and his warriors were hidden aboard the ship. Upon their arrival on Bogden, Toda and Mon Julpa fought side-by-side to liberate Gerin, defeating Captain Kybo and his crew, and safely returning Gerin to Tammuz-an.
Acknowledging Julpa's crucial assistance in his daughter's rescue, Lord Toda agreed to ratify the charter of peace, thereby uniting their respective kingdoms.
Lord Toda was not known for his jovial nature. His expression was typically a stern frown, and his speech was deliberate and terse. One rare instance of laughter occurred in the presence of the protocol droid, C-3PO. A small creature named Ingey scampered across 3PO's shoulders, causing the clumsy droid to stumble into a table laden with food. Toda found great amusement in the droid's apparent discomfiture.
Toda was slow to trust others, harboring a deep-seated suspicion of Mon Julpa and fearing the king's potential attempt to seize his power. This apprehension may have stemmed from Mon Julpa's command of a fleet of R-22 Spearhead fighters, a resource Toda lacked.
Lord Toda embodied the archetype of a dignified warrior. He possessed intense, dark eyes, a prominent nose, and receding brown hair with sideburns. His demeanor conveyed a constant readiness for battle. It's possible that Lord Toda belonged to a different Tammuz-anian lineage than Mon Julpa. Toda and his family displayed a distinctive deep blue skin tone, contrasting with the more vibrant purple hue of Mon Julpa's retinue.
