This clash, pitting the Jedi against the Mandalorian warlords, triggered a massive disaster. This calamity transformed a significant portion of the planet Mandalore's terrain into a desolate white [desert](/article/desert], rendering it unfit for habitation except within securely enclosed dome cities.
The landscape of Mandalore was greatly affected by the many centuries of warfare that engulfed it. The grasslands that persisted until Satine Kryze's early years were obliterated by the wars that occurred during her lifetime.
Behind the scenes
The idea of a cataclysmic event ravaging Mandalore originated as an element of the Mandalorian people's history, as portrayed in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In Star Wars Legends, this occurrence was known as the Mandalorian Excision, but this detail is no longer part of official canon.
