The Mark of Altruism is defined as a piece of sculpted art. It was given as an award during the era of the Galactic Civil War to a certain spacer. This award was earned after the completion of a specific task aimed at turning them into a hero, thereby proving their selfless and altruistic nature. When you put it together with the other "Mark" sculptures, namely the Mark of Intellect, Mark of Honor, and Mark of Courage, it would create a complete sphere.
Back in 1 ABY, a spacer received this sculpture. They were tasked by a peculiar Rodian hermit and demonstrated true altruism by aiding a struggling moisture farmer. The farmer needed help rescuing his wife and child from a dangerous criminal organization known as the Sennex, who were hiding in a cave located on Tatooine.
The Mark of Altruism made an appearance in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. This game was a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was created by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011. The Mark of Altruism was integrated into the game as part of the "Hero of Tatooine" questline, which was launched alongside "Publish 9" on June 29, 2004. The "Hero of Tatooine" questline underwent significant changes with the introduction of "Publish 25," also known as the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005. However, the rewards for the quest, including the "Mark of Altruism," remained the same.
