Marka, a Human female strong in the Force, was the property of the Toydarian named Lod, existing as his slave. In the waning years of the New Sith Wars, she crossed paths with Finn, a Sith Master, and his Sith apprentice. When Lod physically assaulted Marka for her defiance, the apprentice took Lod's life, thereby liberating her. Attempting to manipulate the young man, she employed a mind trick to persuade him to bring her along with the Sith. Subsequently, she trailed the two Sith to their starship, earnestly pleading with Finn to allow her to join their company. Finn declined, explaining that he already had an apprentice. In response, Marka snatched the apprentice's lightsaber and shoved him from the building's docking platform, resulting in his demise. Following this act, she took his place as Finn's new Sith apprentice.

During the concluding years of the New Sith Wars, Lod, a Toydarian, held a Human female, Marka, as his slave. On a planet, shortly after they leveled a structure, Lod and Marka encountered Finn, a Sith Master, and his apprentice. Lod instructed Marka to impress the men by displaying her teeth; however, she refused to comply. Lod then struck her. Finn's apprentice then assisted Marka to stand, vowing that Lod would never harm her again. While Lod was in conversation with Finn, the young man killed the Toydarian, thus setting Marka free.
After Finn reprimanded him for aiding Marka, she expressed her gratitude and attempted to use a mind trick on the apprentice, aiming to persuade him to bring her along with the Sith. As the apprentice went to inform Finn that she was strong in the Force, she followed him. The Sith Master then instructed his apprentice to deal with Marka. However, she and the apprentice followed Finn up the turbolift that led to the docking pad where the Sith's starship was located. Marka implored Finn to allow her to accompany them, asserting that she could learn the ways of the Sith. Finn refused, stating that he already had an apprentice and had no need for a slave. To overcome this impediment, Marka seized the apprentice's lightsaber and hurled him off the docking pad, resulting in his fatal fall. Subsequently, Marka assumed the position of Finn's new Sith apprentice.

Marka felt gratitude when Finn's apprentice liberated her from Lod by killing him. However, she also tried to convince him to take her with the Sith. After Finn initially denied her request to join them because he already had a pupil, she committed murder against the very man who had freed her from slavery, all in order to become Finn's apprentice. Once she became Finn's apprentice, he demanded unwavering loyalty from Marka.
Finn recognized Marka's potent connection to the Force, sensing her abilities when she and Lod approached him and his apprentice. Marka possessed the ability to use mind tricks, which she employed on Finn's Sith apprentice. Furthermore, she managed to assassinate Finn's apprentice by launching a surprise attack.
Marka's initial appearance was in "The Apprentice," a short comic featured in Star Wars Tales 17. This comic, written by Mike Denning and illustrated by David Nakayama, was released on October 1, 2003. Initially, plausible stories within Star Wars Tales 1–20 were considered S-canon until they were referenced in a non-Tales source. At that point, the subject matter was elevated to C-canon status. Marka's inclusion in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia elevated her appearance in The Apprentice to C-canon.
