Mission to Bakura (Disciples of Ragnos crisis)

The Mission to Bakura unfolded within an old power station in 14 ABY. This event transpired during the period of the Disciples of Ragnos crisis, and it marked one of the initial assignments for Jaden Korr after his enrollment at the Jedi Academy for training.

Mission

Background

Bakura, formerly under Imperial control, allied itself with the Rebel Alliance in 4 ABY to defend against the Ssi-ruuk invasion. While it didn't formally join the Alliance then, its actions drew disapproval from certain elements within the Imperial structure. When it later joined the New Republic, a faction within the Imperial Remnant resolved to penalize them for what they perceived as betrayal.

A team comprising stormtroopers and saboteurs, under the command of some Imperial officers, were dispatched to the planet. Their objective was a power station situated high in the mountains of Bakura. Constructed atop a dormant volcano, the destruction of the power station would trigger a volcanic eruption, endangering a densely populated city nearby. The saboteurs installed powerful explosive devices with the intention of completely destroying the power station.

Following the capture of the station, Bakuran authorities dispatched an investigative team, which subsequently disappeared without providing any reports. Consequently, the officials sought assistance from the New Jedi Order. Jedi Master Kyle Katarn and his apprentice, Jaden Korr, were assigned to provide aid.

The mission

Korr was the first to arrive, piloting the Far Wanderer. After an extended wait for his master, he chose to proceed independently. It was later discovered that Katarn never reached Bakura. Upon entering the facility, he encountered numerous corpses, presumably belonging to the original Bakuran team that had vanished, along with signs of blaster fire and explosions indicative of an assault. By accessing the internal security system, Korr discovered five bombs strategically placed throughout the facility, primed for detonation. Each bomb required individual deactivation.

This was accomplished by systematically fighting his way through the facility, eliminating all Imperial terrorists encountered. Damage to various sections of the facility, likely resulting from the initial takeover, necessitated careful navigation by Korr. Ultimately, after confronting autoturrets, E-Webs, and an astromech droid, he successfully concluded his mission, significantly enhancing his proficiency in applying his Force abilities.

Aftermath

Despite the failure of the Imperial terrorists' mission, Bakura later withdrew from the New Republic. However, the Jedi's successful intervention in preventing the disaster likely cultivated goodwill between the Bakurans and the New Jedi Order. This may have contributed to the Bakurans' willingness to support Luke Skywalker during the Corellian Insurrection in 18 ABY.
