The Mission to Malastare marked the third stage of Jango Fett's involvement in The Hunt, an operation focused on locating the Bando Gora organization and its enigmatic leader, Komari Vosa. After the problematic escape of Bendix Fust from the prison on Oovo IV, Jango, in company with the mysterious Zam Wesell, traveled to Malastare. Their purpose was to deliver Fust to the crimelord Sebolto, hoping to gain information about the whereabouts of the Bando Gora in exchange. Jango reasoned that he could uncover more details regarding the Bando Gora through his own investigation, and to facilitate this, he tasked Zam with distracting the Dug by presenting Fust (along with her "alluring" presence).
While Zam engaged with Sebolto, Jango traversed the Malastare jungles, battling both wild nexus creatures and Sebolto's enforcers. Upon reaching Sebolto's headquarters, Jango discovered Zam already engaged in combat with more of the Dug's thugs. Realizing that Jango was pursuing Komari Vosa and the Gora, the Dug went into hiding. Jango eventually cornered Sebolto, and in his panic, the Dug hastily entered a secret passage leading to the death stick manufacturing facility. However, Sebolto's hurried actions proved fatal, as he inadvertently plunged into a death stick processor.
Continuing his search for clues within the factory, Jango encountered the Bando Gora. After repelling the dangerous and deranged cultists, Jango once more faced Montross. Following a short skirmish on skiffs, Montross once again evaded capture. Jango then rejoined Zam at the Slave I. Recalling that some of the ships at Sebolto's compound bore Huttese markings, Jango surmised that the Hutts were likely involved with the Bando Gora. After relaying this information to Roz, the Toydarian informed him that the dominant Hutts of Tatooine, Jabba and Gardulla, were embroiled in a fierce dispute over control of the desert planet. Jango and Zam concluded that at least one, if not both, of them must be connected to the death stick operation. Consequently, the two bounty hunters set a course for Tatooine.
