Mission to the Red Nebula

During the time of the Galactic Civil War (Legends timeline), Domina Tagge masterminded a venture that took place within the Red Nebula, with the objective of seizing the Great Life Jewels.

Venture to the Red Nebula

This undertaking was carefully planned by Domina Tagge. Her network of informants had uncovered information about the Great Life Jewels, which were said to be located on a world situated in the heart of the Red Nebula.

To accomplish her goals, Tagge enlisted the services of several renowned mercenaries, notably Bossk, Dengar, IG-88C, IG-88D, and Zuckuss.

Once there, her Mining Explorer initiated a bombardment of the Untouched Valley, devastating the native population and scattering the beast that protected the temple where the gems were kept. Simultaneously, the elite group of bounty hunters successfully secured the jewels and captured the cleric who oversaw them.

Confrontation on the Mining Explorer

The bounty hunters incited a violent clash with the stormtroopers stationed on the Mining Explorer

Not long after the acquisition, Tagge subjected the priest to interrogation, seeking to extract knowledge about the gems' potentially lethal properties. She discovered that separating the gems would trigger the devastating Crimson Forever. However, as they attempted to exit the Red Nebula, their Mining Explorer came under attack from an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Darth Vader had dispatched the warship after learning about Tagge's expedition and his desire to uncover the secrets she sought.

The Star Destroyer crippled the Mining Explorer by destroying its propulsion systems, which forced Tagge to relinquish her prize. The Imperial boarding party only managed to seize one of the two gems, as Tagge had cleverly concealed the other within a carbonite container designed to release its contents under the stresses of faster-than-light travel. Tagge also provided the Imperials with the location of the new Rebel outpost on Golrath, information she had gleaned from her intelligence network. Subsequently, Tagge orchestrated a battle between the bounty hunters and the Imperial soldiers, compelling the boarding party to abandon the Mining Explorer, thereby ensuring the separation of the two Great Life Jewels.

Consequences

In his final moments, the priest released the second jewel from its carbonite prison

In the aftermath of the conflict, the Imperials left the heavily damaged Mining Explorer adrift at the edge of the Red Nebula. The Star Destroyer then set a course for Golrath, initiating a jump to hyperspace. This action triggered the release of the gem from its carbonite container, causing the Crimson Forever to spread rapidly throughout the vessel. By the time the Star Destroyer reached the Golrath system, the entire crew had succumbed to the effects of the virulent plague.

Tagge's scheme unfolded according to her design. However, she had not foreseen that the dying priest would also release the second jewel, which remained in her possession, leading to the dissemination of the Crimson Forever within the Mining Explorer. Tagge and the bounty hunters found themselves confined to a section of the Mining Explorer that was unaffected by the Crimson Forever.

Sometime later, the Rebels discovered the deserted Star Destroyer in the Golrath system, and Luke Skywalker contracted the plague. Fortunately, Han Solo and Chewbacca had previously encountered similar red jewels during a previous incident within the Red Nebula. After hearing the Wookiee's account of the event, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca decided to journey to the Red Nebula aboard the Millennium Falcon in the hopes of discovering a cure for the Crimson Forever. En route to the Red Nebula, they stumbled upon the abandoned Mining Explorer. Following a brief engagement, they agreed to liberate Tagge and her companions in order to reunite the two Great Life Jewels and bring an end to the Crimson Forever.
